Nawi Island Resort – Savusavu, Vanua Levu, Fiji
Spread over three private islands, this residential resort includes a 25-room boutique hotel, clubhouse, marina, and an assortment of single-family homes, all designed in harmony with the local vernacular.
Hired to assist with master planning and to develop design concepts for this eco-resort in Fiji, our approach is to create a distinct yet cohesive blend of architectural experiences across the building types. The Yacht Club, located on the smaller Korovesa Island, will take a rustic, organic direction. On Nawi Island, a more structured layout of thatched-roof buildings organizes the hotel, while the single-family for-sale residences will have a more island contemporary vernacular, responding to the market for livability needs.
This remote island development was designed as an environmental and culturally responsible resort community, incorporating passive recreational opportunities. The fact the resort shares the intimate bay with the small community of Savu creates a unique sense of place: one of exotic remoteness simultaneously integrated into the established seaside community.
