Kolomuo – South Kohala Coast, Isle of Hawaii, Hawaii
A modern architectural home composed with a clear understanding of its owners’ lifestyle, designed to embrace its tropical island setting.

Alongside an 1801 lava flow on the South Kohala coast of Hawaii, this residence has been designed as modern island architecture, connecting the owner to nature, region and culture. On a property just over an acre in size, the home operates as a series of connected yet separate pavilions oriented toward the south Kohala coastline.

The finish materials selected for their durability also contribute to the modern aesthetic and refined sense of restraint. The zinc roof shingles, black aluminum frames, steel fascias and columns, colored cement plaster, and natural stone contribute to the balanced simplicity. The interior features stone and teak floors, grayish stained oak ceilings and millwork, granite countertops, and veneer plaster walls.
The entire design of residence was conceived as one concept of minimalism, restraint, and craftsmanship.
