de Reus Architects led the design team in the re-branding of the former J.W.Marriott, successfully converting the outdated 1993 Killingsworth-designed hotel into the five-star Four Seasons Resort O’ahu at Ko Olina, a one-of-a-kind luxury holding for the developer and investors.
The $100 million remodel included architecture, interior design, landscaping, pools, and signage on a fast-tracked schedule for the hotelier’s predetermined opening.
While the hotel had a durable and expressive structure with impressively-sized guest rooms, it suffered from inadequate and tired amenities, neglected finishes, mediocre landscaping, furniture, fixtures and equipment.
We enhanced the entire arrival experience, from the street to the lobby, including the 17-story atrium. Reception previously blocked the lobby’s beautiful views of the ocean. With reception relocated to a more discreet location, the vistas of Ko Olina each were revealed. The addition of concierge pods further improved the guest experience. Wood-detailing enriched the entrance, added to the overall drama of the space, and provided warmth and gracious elegance that had previously been lacking.
The refresh was extensive:
- A new lobby bar, coffee lounge, and outdoor lounge deck
- Redesign of all four restaurants
- New outdoor dining terrace at the Fish House
- Creation of a natural water feature lagoon
- New Adult Pool with Lounge Decks, Cabanas, Restrooms and Service Pantry
