Designed by Mark de Reus, in association with Hart Howerton, the site plan of this five-bedroom home, overlooking Kikaua Bay on the island of Hawaii, is organized around three separate hales surrounding a shady internal garden, which serves as the entry to the main part of the home. The layout grants the living areas and lanais direct views of the ocean.
The theme of water runs through the design with a swimming pool engaging the ocean side of the main living areas and a reflecting pool on the interior garden side.
Hawaiian and Pacific Rim craftsmanship are evident in the details; from exposed wood beams at the eaves and ceiling, to carved stone artwork, intricately carved Balinese-inspired wood doors, playfully colored plaster walls, coconut columns, and rich tropical woods.
Seaside Hale is featured in Tropical Experience, 21st Century Homes, the May 2007 issue of Architectural Digest and in HGTV’s show “Amazing Waterfront Homes”.
