Hired by the developers of Kukio, we were asked to create a golf club that would extend the Pacific Rim character of their highly successful Kukio Beach Club on the North Kona Coast.
Our overarching design intent was to create an architecture of this time, with a palpable connection to the architecture of ancient Polynesian cultures that would lend an elegant and elemental spirit to the site.
The design for this hillside club incorporates rusticly elegant materials such as exposed timber framed ceilings, African mahogany hardwood, ohia trellises, lava stone walls and limestone floors. The project is composed of four individual thatched-roof pavilions housing a pro shop and retail; dining and kitchen and men’s and women’s locker rooms; underground cart storage and an event lawn.
Construction of the Kukio Golf Club began in December 2005 and was completed on budget and ahead of schedule in November 2007.
