Cocotraie Magazine features Mark de Reus in their Hawaii Issue
The award winning Architect who strives to achieve originality and excellence in every project.
Mark, the founding design partner of de Reus Architects, heads a Hawaii based team of master planners and architects in the low key town of Waimea on the Big Island, with over 30 years of experience delivering architectural services to private clients and developers. The firm’s portfolio ranges from the planning, designing and building of high end residential homes, master-planned luxury resorts, new communities, to multi-faceted projects, hospitality, clubhouses, spas, restaurants, and wineries. Mark’s search is for the artistic expression of the entire environment, where site, buildings and landscape evolve together; as a holistic design, not as separate entities. This is the “Art of Placemaking” the philosophical cornerstone of his practice.
“The aesthetic quality of a building is a principle that is vital to the placemaking philosophy. Our work is a counterpoint to the current trend of architecture as brand. Rather, we are interested in what the land will reveal to the design, as well as the natural influences of light and wind, the emotive nature of our materials, and a keen sense of craftsmanship and detail. We do not see our design as abstract novelties, or as objects, but as works that are infused with an intended emotional quality.”
