Sustainability strategies guide the development vision of the Makena Golf & Beach Club — a low-density private resort development on the island of Maui. With the objective of melding the architecture of this new resort to the larger island community, and to respond to the range of buyer preferences, the various residences and amenity buildings were designed with a mixture of contemporary and traditional architectural styles.
The 72,000 SF Beach Club, designed as a modern garden-inspired structure, is organized around a central courtyard water garden consists of a restaurant, cardio/fitness, a large pool and event lawn, administration and back-of-house functions, full basement parking garage and club residential units on the second floor.
Adjacent to the Beach Club, the 12,000 SF Spa is arranged with the sensibilities of a small village of hales that includes a reception hale overlooking a lap pool and the men’s and women’s locker rooms situated to either side along with a number of free standing treatment hales amidst gardens.
This community core includes a mix of single-family and multi-family residences including:
10 — Two-story, 3,400 SF Beach Cottages (under construction)
10 — Two-story, 4,500 – 5,000 SF Molokini Residences
1 — Multi-family, 2,000 SF, 8-unit Hale Kehau
5 — Multi-family 3,200 SF – 4,300 SF, 6-unit Kula Villas
7 — Club residences ranging from 1,200 SF to 2,800 SF
