Hired by the owner Ty Warner to reposition Kona Village, the objective was to capture top position for the premiere Polynesian destination five-star Hawaiian resort.  Our design goals were:

  • Maintain intrinsic qualities that have endeared guests over the years
  • Maintain points of familiarity connecting to long time guests: non-typical resort, non-designed and ad-hoc, no phones or TV, parrots on arrival, Shipwreck & Talk Story Bars, coral sand paths
  • A sense of discovery and instill “barefoot luxury”
  • A “Place Where Time Stands Still” – the native village letting nature exist
  • Atmosphere of Healing: meditative grounding, listening to nature; fragrance of rejuvenation with fragrant beautiful native gardens
  • Achieving privacy with guest hales
  • Keeping the rustic and natural character, raise the overall quality of environment
  • With an artisan and craftsmanship approach transform the ersatz to authenticity
  • Exemplify stewardship of the land and the Hawaiian culture
  • Address neglect and deferred maintenance
